If there's one thing that helped Apple become America's leading smartphone maker, it's the company's ecosystem. All its apps, Macs and iPods are integrated and easy to synch, making the iOS platform hard to beat for longtime users with more than a few gadgets in their digital graveyard.
Now it looks like Nokia, the Finnish manufacturer, is following the company's successful footsteps. Quoting the Australian Financial Review, CNET reports that CEO Stephon Elop made it clear over the weekend that he's ready to enter the tablet market.
"We are studying very closely the market right now as Microsoft has introduced the Surface tablet, so we are trying to learn from that and understand what the right way to participate would be and at what point in time," he said.
The Nokia tablet will reportedly operate on Windows, though a PR rep was quick to point out there's a chance it could run on Android. Even so, the company's Lumia 920 smartphone is a Windows device, which Elop admits provides "a pretty integrated experience." From a consumer's standpoint, it would probably make sense for the tablet to synch with it.
Nokia's tablet might arrive sooner than we think, as Elop hinted at a Windows device last November. But for now, it's just an industry rumor.
