Don't fear New Yorkers, because the MetroCard you're used to will be around for a little bit longer than expected. The classic blue-and-yellow cards were supposed to be replaced by 2015, but now it appears that new cards won't be used until 2016 at the earliest.

MTA is in a rush to introduce new cards because the current technology was developed in the '90s and reportedly will not last past 2019. The agency also wants to find a cheaper alternative to the more than 2,000 MetroCard vending machines.

According to the MTA, a rapidly changing marketplace is the main reason for the delay in new technology.
