On Wednesday, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officers thwarted a man's attempt to smuggle 310 pounds of weed hidden in frozen carrots. The large stash was found after a 29-year-old man from Maywood, CA drove a Bobtail truck from Baja California to an Otay Mesa cargo facility.
Officials who inspected the vehicle found 42 packages of marijuana inside the boxes of carrots. According to the Los Angles Times, the drugs have an estimated street value of $500,000. The driver's name has not been released, but he is being detained at a federal prison on charges of attempted illegal smuggling of marijuana.
