Kodak is going bankrupt, but parts of it will live on. Thanks to a $525 million patent sale, some of the iconic company's technologies may eventually find their way into new products from representatives of the current tech vanguard.

Kodak is spreading its patents like so many ashes, scattering them among a consortium of 12 interested technology firms, including Apple, Google, Amazon, Facebook, Huawei and others. The companies will license the patents from intermediaries Intellectual Ventures and RPX Corp.

The pioneering film company filed for bankruptcy at the beginning of this year and recently sold off most of its business divisions.
