There is little denying that The Wizard of Oz is one of the most beloved American films of all time. It may have been released over 70 years ago, but it still endures today by attracting fans from each new generation with its memorable musical numbers and endearing characters. But now Hollywood is revisiting the property with a prequel that tells the story of the wizard from the original before he became so powerful.
Directed by Sam Raimi, and starring Mila Kunis and James Franco, Oz: The Great and Powerful will undoubtedly be divisive when it comes out, as some fans will welcome this new interpretation of Frank L. Baum’s world, while some will immediately scoff at the notion. And in an attempt to win over those wary fans, USA Today has posted new images from the movie that show off how closely Raimi stuck to the look of the original, while also crafting something unique. Check them out below:
Oz: The Great and Powerful will hit theaters on March 8, 2013.
