Deadline is reporting that Will Smith could potentially make his directorial debut with a movie based on the biblical story of Cain & Abel. If Smith does indeed sign on, the plan is for him to handle the directing duties as well as star in the movie; we just don't know which role he would actually wind up playing.
Tentatively titled The Redemption of Cain, this movie would presumably follow the story of the murder of Abel at the hands of his jealous brother Cain. We're not quite sure what significance the word Redemption has in the title, but we wouldn't be surprised if Hollywood took some liberties with the tale.
With Darren Aronofsky'sNoah already in the middle of production, and with both Ridley Scott and Steven Spielberg eyeing separate Moses movies, it looks like we could be on the verge of a biblical adaptation trend. We can't even begin to try to spin that in a positive way.
