That upcoming Janis Joplin biopic - titled, simply, Joplin - finally has a director and a star. Vulture is reporting that Martha Marcy May Marlene director Sean Durkin has signed on to direct the film, and Best Actress Tony winner Nina Arianda will portray the iconic singer. The film will follow the last six months of Joplin's life "sprinkled with flashbacks to her early days," and, like a biopic should, will include 21 of Joplin's most well-known songs.
While part of us is wishing someone would just go ahead and make that Jenna Maroney-starring Janet Jopler biopic from 30 Rock, this works too.
