It can happen to anyone.
Maria Menounos revealed to Howard Stern earlier this week that she was sexually abused by a doctor years ago. The "Extra" host said she'd gone in to have an issue with her throat checked out, and soon found the doctor touching her genitals.
"I was really young, so I was so uncomfortable," she said. "(My boyfriend) Kevin was in the waiting room and I literally started screaming. I was just so uncomfortable I didn’t know what to do."
She revealed that her boyfriend implored her to go to the police, but that she didn't want to press charges. Like many victims of sexual abuse, she may have been embarrassed and scared to take things that far.
Menounos said that there have been other times when doctors have acting inappropriately with her in an examination room, and that she's now scared of going into them alone.
