Daniel Day-Lewis doesn't take getting into character lightly. The actor, who is currently filming Steven Spielberg's Lincoln in Richmond, Virginia was spotted by a college student (@UVAMichael) who surreptitiously snapped the photo above.
The verdict? Even in mom jeans and what looks to be a velour turtleneck, Day-Lewis is a fiercely accurate Abe Lincoln. He even has the appropriate serious scowl on display during a solo lunch. Top hats—who needs 'em?
Adding to the visuals isVariety reporter Jeff Sneider's report that Day-Lewis “hasn’t broken his Lincoln accent since March”, and has gone so deep into character that his “real name doesn’t even appear on the call sheet.”
Lincoln is slated for a December 2012 release, where Day-Lewis will be joined by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Tommy Lee Jones, David Strathairn, John Hawkes and (as recently revealed) Jared Harris for the Civil War era depiction of Honest Abe.
