3D, Glasses Not Going Away Anytime Soon

Sony, Samsung, and others to create tricked-out, industry-standard models.

None

The rise in 3D movies (fuck you, James Cameron) begot the wave of consumer 3D TVs for the home because TV manufacturers thought we’d love to be douchey and wear glasses inside of our cribs.

Lo and behold, they still do! And now Sony, Samsung, Panasonic, and other glasses producers are joining forces to create industry standard guidelines in an initiative called “Full HD 3D Glasses Initiative” that would help to entrench the use of the technology. By 2012, glasses will have standard infrared and radio frequency protocols and also integrate Bluetooth. Geek speak aside, no word yet on what they’ll look like, but 3D wayfarers could be ironically awesome.
