Video: See Twitter's Upcoming Photo-Sharing Service In Action

Twitter takes the wraps off its new photo service. Check it out.

Word got out last month that Twitter was working on a native photo-sharing service. Details were scarce, but according to Tech Crunch it would work to edge out services like Twitpic and Lockerz and make it easier for Twitter users to find photos that have been tweeted. At the 2011 D9 Conference today Twitter CEO Dick Costolo finally unveiled how the service will look and work.

The new service will allow users to upload their images directly to Twitter and attach a tweet or hashtag to it from Twitter.com. Once uploaded, relevant images and videos will appear when a search is conducted with the revamped Twitter search. The service will only be available on Twitter.com at first but will become available for the official mobile apps. Twitter is also working with carriers to allow users without smartphones to upload photos via text message.

The new Twitter search is starting to be rolled out today.
