Sally Field has been cast as Mary Todd Lincoln in the long-overdue biopic Lincoln, to be directed by Steven Spielberg. Field will star alongside Daniel Day Lewis, who's cast as our nation's 16th President, Abraham Lincoln.
"I'm excited to be working with Sally for the first time," Spielberg said in a statement. "I've admired her films, and she has always been my first choice to portray all the fragility and complexity that was Mary Todd Lincoln."
The film will revolve around the political strife between Lincoln and the members of his cabinet. It will be based on Doris Kearns Goodwin’s book Team of Rivals and has been adapted into a screenplay by Tony Kushner (Munich).
Filming will begin this fall in Chicago as the movie prepares for a late 2012 release.
