Indonesian Politician Quits After Watching Porn On House Floor

In Indonesia, where pornography is contraband and possessing it can get you sent to jail, one politican is getting off easy (ha!) by simply losing his job. Arifinto, a lawmaker for the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), was caught last week watching a dirty movie on his tablet computer in the House of Representatives. He quit on Monday after first denying the allegation.

The largely Muslim and socially conservative nation of Indonesia has a strange fascination with pornography. While actual porn is illegal, porn stars are hugely popular and often visit the country to star in locally produced films, which tend to do well at the box office. Meanwhile, lawmakers in the House, including Arifinto, frequently renew their calls to eradicate the sinful material from the country once and for all. Perhaps he was doing research there in the House? No, says Arifinto. He slipped.

From The Jakarta Globe:

Arifinto said he would now attempt to redeem himself by seeking religious forgiveness, reciting the Koran and seeking advice from ulemas. He vowed to engage in acts of piety, and he apologized to the party, its sympathizers and constituents as well as other House members.

Dude, we know you got called out on some bad behavior, but don't you think you're overreacting? Just go the Eliot Spitzer route and embrace it, then land a sweet gig on CNN.
