As he's known to do, Frank Ocean decided to drop a new song seemingly out of nowhere early Thursday morning. "Moon River"—a cover of the 1961 Audrey Hepburn classic from Breakfast at Tiffany's—popped up online shortly after Valentine's Day ended. Ocean introduced the song with the caption "in the late nite" on his Tumblr page.
Ocean's dreamy "Moon River" rework features less Hepburn and more melancholy guitar strums along with Ocean's sweetened voice and harmonies. The cover is Ocean's first release of 2018.
While his 2016 projects Blonde and Endless were more than enough to satisfy Ocean fans, the singer spent the top half of 2017 dropping new songs through his Blonded Radio Beats 1 show and making excellent feature appearances. Highlights included his songs "Chanel" and "Biking," as well as guest spots on Tyler, the Creator's "911/Mr. Lonely," ASAP Rocky's "RAF," and Calvin Harris' "Slide."
In November, the 30-year-old hinted in a Tumblr post that he made another album. "Well! I made the album before 30! I just ain't put that bitch out!' - Quotes from an Interview I haven't given haha," Ocean wrote. The comment appeared to reference a past tweet in which he said he was going to make five albums before he turned 30.
Of course, there's no word on when the next Frank Ocean album is coming. But for now, you can listen to his "Moon River" cover above.
