Run The Jewels Make German Trance Songs, Talk New Music With Hannibal Buress

Killer Mike and El-P were guests on Hannibal Buress' 'Handsome Rambler' podcast.

An ongoing part of Hannibal Buress' Handsome Rambler podcast is making weird music with guests on a collection of beat machines and instruments scattered throughout the room. This week, guests Killer Mike and El-P of Run The Jewels got extra weird with it, making what they described as "German trance records."

At the 12:00 mark of the conversation, Buress looked ahead at new music from the duo and asked, "Ok, so you've got the albums Run The Jewels 1, Run The Jewels 2, and Run The Jewels 3. Are y'all going to throw a curveball for the third one and just call it Asparagus?" El-P laughed and responded, "We were playing around with calling it Run The Jewels 5 just to fuck with people." Then, Killer Mike confirmed the next project will in fact be called RTJ4, saying, "I like four. We've already started promoting."

Later in the interview (at 19:30) they talked about how weird it is that their music has turned into go-to workout music for people, despite the fact that they're out of shape themselves: "The irony of Run The Jewels music becoming the number one gym workout music of 2017 and who's making it has not escaped us. This shit is depressing. Like, we'll get a picture of just some ripped dude like, 'Just won a gold medal!'"
