XXXTENTACION

XXXTentacion always seems to be in the headlines for the most contradictory of things. Most recently, the rapper announced he was quitting music and leaving his record deal. His rep refuted that statement, only to have the Florida rapper reiterate his original statement that he was, indeed, quitting. He then determined he would come back only if Ski Mask the Slump God would be his friend again. After all that, XXXTentacion released a snippet of new music on his Instagram. It’s been a confusing month to say the least.

But XXXTentacion has been dogged by more serious claims pretty much ever since he first tasted fame: domestic abuse. The most serious of them, outlined in a Pitchfork story, include charges for aggravated battery of a pregnant woman and domestic battery by strangulation. XXXTentacion has also used the internet to threaten those who call him a domestic abuser, even going so far as to write, "If you want your pussy domestically abused, hit my line."

It might seem curious, then, to see XXXTentacion's most recent Instagram stories. He seems to be trying to change the narrative surrounding his brutal domestic abuse charges by writing: “I highly salute those who have been raped or sexually abused and have remained strong,” adding in another story that “women are stronger than you think.” He also says he will be holding a women's empowerment speech. He follows up by mentioning that he will be completing his previously promised $100,000 donation to domestic violence prevention programs “soon.” The rapper then tells his followers to “stop using the internet as a platform to spread hate.”

He then jumps into a totally unconnected story about some parking fines he has received and complaining about his neighbors. He continues by using the internet as a platform to threaten those in his neighborhood by writing: “Stop playing, or me and my million dollar investors are going to sue the fuck out of you” and asks "karma" to "hurry."
