Jaden Smith Is Making a Full Movie Based on the Story of His Debut Album 'SYRE'

"There's no rapping, really, in the whole movie. It's just about the story of Syre.”

Jaden Smith's new album is loosely based around the life narrative of a boy as he comes to age and figures out his own legacy. Apparently the story won't stop with the album, however.

In a new interview with Billboard, Smith explains that he's currently directing a SYRE film that will further flesh the story out.

Explaining that the film won't be a visual album like Beyoncé's Lemonade film, he says, "It's an actual film that plays out that has characters. There's no rapping, really, in the whole movie. It's just about the story of Syre."

Describing the album (and film's) narrative in his own words, Smith says, "It's really just become a legacy of this guy, this kid, who chases the sunset. And then one day, it chases him back and he can't get away. It really is the story of me coming to be a young adult, and it wasn't easy at all."

It hasn't been confirmed who will be acting in the film, but judging by the album's visuals and the fact that the story is based on Smith's own life (his middle name is Syre), it's a fair assumption that Jaden will also be playing the lead role.

Speaking on his ambitions and his own legacy, Smith added that he would like to be remembered as "a person that is trying their hardest to be like Elon Musk—somebody that's trying to be an artist, and somebody that's trying to help in any way I can. When people think of me, I want them to think of the person that is always giving back to something, or someone."
