In 2017, it's easy to get caught up in the scramble to find out what's next. Every day, artists are coming up with new sounds and setting new trends. It's an exciting time. But it's also overwhelming. Sometimes it's nice to sit back and enjoy a two minute pop song that would make sense in any era.

Enter Rex Orange County. With his excellent 2017 album Apricot Princess and contributions to Tyler, The Creator's new album fresh in our minds, he's back with a new song that showcases his emotional depth and honest songwriting. Over somber piano chords, he sings of a crumbling relationship in a charmingly relatable way: "I understand you had a bad day and shit / So I say something dumb as fuck."

By the end of the two minute song, Rex hasn't reinvented the wheel. But he's managed to tap into a universal feeling that would work in 1967 as well as it will in 2067—and he does it in a way that feels fresh and authentic. Listen below and learn more about Rex in our interview with him here.
