The New Music Friday gods are looking down and smiling. Alina Baraz, who is currently on tour supporting Coldplay on select dates across North America, dropped two new dreamy singles, "Buzzin" and "Lavender and Velvet."
Let's start with "Buzzin"—the track premiered yesterday on Zane Lowe's Beats 1 Radio show, and her voice floats over the Ben Billions-produced beat. With lyrics like, "Fire in your eyes/Striking me like lightning/Warming up my soul/Oh, it's hypnotizing," she manages to actually hypnotize us. Baraz teased it on Instagram earlier this week and it follows her August release "Electric" featuring Khalid.
"Lavender and Velvet" is just as mesmerizing and sexy as "Buzzin." Baraz kicks off the Jonathan Elkaer-produced track with the lyrics, "Pull up the city/Tell me I'm your lily/I'll be in that dress you like/Body in vanilla/Yeah, I know it thrills ya/I know what is on your mind." Her voice once again flawlessly moves through the instrumental. Hopefully the new music signals that a follow-up to 2015's Urban Flora is on the way.
