Partynextdoor Drops Two New Tracks—Is An Album on the Way?
What’s up guys, Frazier here for Complex News and it appears Party season is dawning upon us. OVO Sound’s most formidable weapon PartyNExtDoor laced us with not one but two new tracks this week, and they are both right on time. It all started on Thursday, when he released “Break Me Down,” a loosie Genius lists as being produced by Cardiak. The track is vintage Party, with a laid back contemplative beat that allows him to get reflective, examining a relationship with a mystery woman and pondering his own vulnerability. And while the partner in question isn’t named, a line around the 2:30 mark does contain a juicy passing reference to his two biggest exes, Kehlani and Kylie Jenner.“How you still actin like a groupie?/Why you act like you don’t know me?/Before all the Ks, Kylies and Kehlanis, whoa” He goes on to reference his status as one of OVO General Drake’s biggest secret weapons: “Must be how it go when you crack the Drake code.” On Friday, PND hit us with another track, “Damn,” produced by his close and frequent collaborator G.Ry. “Damn” is a bit more experimental: there’s more bounce to the beat and Party plays around with more cadences and melodies beyond his go-tos. And on the whole, the subject matter is clearly much less personal than “Break Me Down.” By releasing two tracks back-to-back, PND is jumpstarting the hype machine around a rumored new album. Earlier this year he released a fantastic EP with G.Ry, Colours 2. But he’s been teasing that a full-length is in the works as well. Last month Party went on a mini-Tweet spree, revealing that he’s been working with T-Pain, Ne-YO and even Kanye West. He’s also been collabing within the family, hopping on Majid Jordan’s new song “One I Want.” Right before OVO Fest, OVO Sound manager Mr. Morgan posted some billboards teasing upcoming releases. One such image was for something coming from Party titled Club Atlantis. Let’s hope Party’s locked, loaded and ready to drop a new project sooner rather than later.
