Nigerian singer Davido is breaking into the American mainstream, and he’s getting help from some the country’s biggest names.

After collaborating with the likes of Meek Mill, Tinashe, and Wale, the 24-year-old artist has linked up with Young Thug and Rae Sremmurd for his latest single “Pere.” The Afro-trap song premiered on BBC Radio 1Xtra Thursday following months and months of teasing. Davido spoke about “Pere” all the way back in 2016 during an interview on TimWestwoodTV.

“I did that record in the summer. [Swae Lee] invited me over, because we actually met during the Fader Fort backstage,” he said. “So we exchanged numbers. He knew nothing about me at that time... Three weeks after, and I hit him up and he’s like, ‘Yo, come to the crib.’”

Davido accepted the invitation and ended up playing “Pere” for Rae Sremmurd, who immediately jumped on it. Thug was recruited months later, after Davido was introduced to him at an Atlanta jewelry store.

“I was like, ‘Yo, you know what would be crazy? If I get Thug on the same record,’” Davido said, explaining that Rae Sremmurd's and Thug's previous collaborations what sparked the idea. “Like the one they did with Nicki [Minaj, ‘Throw Sum Mo’], that was a crazy record.”

Clearly, adding Thug was a good choice.

You can stream “Pere” on Apple Music and download it on iTunes, or stream it below via Spotify. Davido’s upcoming album The Baddest is set to drop later this year.
