Did Nicki Minaj once sleep with Hot 97 personality Ebro Darden as Remy Ma claimed on "ShETHER"? Thatâs been the question that everyone has been trying to answer ever since Remy made the shocking accusation on her song.
On Sunday morning, Ebro took to Twitter to address Remy's line and claimed the rapper was lying about him sleeping with Nicki:
He also got into a brief back-and-forth with Remyâs husband Papoose, who claimed his wife was telling the truth:
And on Monday, Ebro addressed the situation further during an on-air interview with Peter Rosenberg on his Hot 97 morning show, Ebro in the Morning. Rosenberg cut right to the chase and asked Ebro if what Remy said on "shETHER" was true, and Ebro channeled Bill Clinton in his response.
"I did not have sexual relations with that woman in any way, shape, or form," he said.
Ebro then went on to explain his friendship with Nicki. He said he met her many years ago through DJ Kay Slay and became friendly with her. He said the two have hung out "several times" over the years, but according to him, they have never been intimate.
"Iâve never been alone with Nicki Minaj," Ebro said. "Ever. At a bar or with her friends or management. It was always work."
Ebro also said that heâs never sexted with Nicki, and he claimed that outside of giving her the occasional compliment about her appearance, their relationship has never been sexual in nature.
"Iâve never sexted Nicki," he said. "Iâve definitely told her her ass was fat. Iâve definitely told her that before. When a video came out, I was like, 'Yo, your ass looks incredible.'"
Ebro did admit to once grabbing Nickiâs thigh at a party.
"Iâve grabbed her thigh at that party," he said. "Remember when she came in that outfit? That Halloween party? We was all there. I definitely was like, 'Yooo.'"
But he said thatâs as far as things went. So where did the rumor Remy rapped about come from? Ebro believes someone who used to be close to Nicki fed Remy the information.
"I believe that because we would go out and have drinks and we had a good time that people got jealous at the time," he said. "I definitely believe that."
Rosenberg asked him if he thought Nickiâs ex-boyfriend Safaree could be the culprit, and Ebro said it might have been him.
"Possibly," he said. "Sheâs only had two ex-boyfriends in recent history. So one of the two."
Ebro also spoke about why he chose to respond to what Remy said in her song on Twitter rather than waiting until Monday morning to clear the air and score some easy radio ratings. Rosenberg and his fellow Hot 97 morning show hosts seemed upset that Ebro chose to do it on social media rather than waiting to talk about it on the air. But Ebro said he didnât want to wait two days to say what he had to say.
"I knew that it would make Nicki feel better," he said. "I knew that it would make me feel better. It would make it look like Iâm not super juiced because my name was thrown in with the Nicki Minaj thing. But I was super juiced."
Ebro was so "juiced" that he admitted to texting Papoose to tell him to thank Remy for including his name in the song.
"I texted Pap right away," he said, "and was like, 'Yo, give Remy the biggest fist pump for me. I appreciate that.'"
But he finished the interview by reiterating that what Remy said was not true.
"It was a lie," he said.
Whatever the case, Hot 97 is milking this for all itâs worth. They put up this poll earlier this morning:
And it has generated a lot of responses from people who still arenât necessarily buying the story Ebro is selling. So it doesnât sound like his most recent comments have done much to clear up the situation.
