Tory Lanez is on a mission to make a statement in hip-hop, and he’s not holding anything back on his latest Fargo Friday track “August 19th.”

Over celebratory production by Jahlil Beats, the Toronto artist spits for nearly five minutes straight, addressing his haters and letting them know that he’s doing just fine on his rise to the top. Here are a few stray shots:

Lanez' second line is about this year’s BET Awards. Bryson Tiller won Best New Artist, beating out Alessia Cara, Andra Day, Kehlani, and Lanez. Tiller also took home the award for Best Male R&B/Pop Artist. Although he follows that line with, “I mean, that’s my nigga, but I came up from the scrilla/And I want this shit the hardest, every artist gotta follow,” he’s obviously feels slighted by BET.

The last line quote above is in reference to his earlier tweet in April. He declined to take a spot on this year’s XXL Freshman Class, joining others rappers like A$AP Rocky, Drake, Nicki Minaj, and Young Thug who have turned down the magazine in the past.

Lanez has made it clear that he’s gunning for the No. 1 spot in rap, which some may say is a title that Drake currently holds. His recent freestyle over Drake’s “Controlla” proves he’s focused on one-upping him until he gets his recognition. Is “August 19th” enough to get people talking? Check out the song below.
