It’s no secret there’s been a lot of drama surrounding Drake and French Montana’s new track “No Shopping.” Even before it was released, rumors began circulating that the song was intended to take shots at Joe Budden, as many believed Drake was referencing Budden’s “Pump It Up” track in a preview posted by French.

After “No Shopping” officially dropped last week, there was a general consensus that Drizzy was, in fact, going in on Budden, as he rapped, “I'm not a one-hit wonder, they know all my stuff/You let me turn into the nigga you almost was.” The verse had to be about Budden, right? Well, not according to French. During an interview with MTV News, the 31-year-old rapper claimed “No Shopping” had nothing to do with the reported Drake-Budden beef. And he’s apparently sticking to that story.

In an interview with Hot 97 on Wednesday, French continued to insist that the song wasn’t taking shots at Budden. And if it was, he had no idea about it.

“I don’t know what’s going on with that whole situation,” he said. “It’s just that name never came up when we were in the studio […] Usually I would be like, ‘Yo, you really going at [him]?’ […] I think Joe made it about him.”

French goes on to imply that if there is any beef, it’s likely one-sided, because Budden is going above and beyond in his efforts to take down Drake.

“I feel like Joe just be in a dark room writing bars,” he said.

You can check out the interview above, where French speaks on the Drake/Joe Budden issue around the 13-minute mark.
