"It's important to me to always uplift people," Skepta told Pharrell and Scott Vener. "When I get a chance to shine light on someone and say 'Yeah, you are amazing at what you do.' I don't see why I wouldn't do that." These admirably positive vibes persist throughout the latest episode of OTHERtone, which also featured a quick but fascinatingly thorough discussion with Jamie Woon:
After telling the story of meeting Snoop Dogg for the first time, who pretty much sounds like the most relaxed guy in the world, Skepta also delivered a scathing freestyle on top of Travis Scott's Rodeo standout "Flying High." "Real Gs don't procrastinate on the job," Skepta rapped before unleashing a verse that seemingly referenced the growing problem of police brutality. Though the archived episode hasn't shown up on Apple Music yet, this behind-the-scenes clip of Skepta prepping for the freestyle over a beat co-produced by Pharrell is quality stuff:
"I'm just floating," Skepta told Pharrell of his emotionally charged creative process. "I'm privileged to be able to preach the message. My enlightenment that I've had has come from myself and it's actually happening inside me. So now I just float." After a downright philosophical discussion, Pharrell then tried to convince Skepta to learn to play guitar to truly unlock a limitless creative expression.
