When Toronto electro-pop upstarts WILDE found themselves in the same room for the first time, something clicked. The trio had been working on other musical projects independently, but after being introduced by a mutual contact, a collective chemistry quickly revealed itself. Vocalist and songwriter Giselle Mapp’s airy vocals find a proper home over celestial production work by Brandon Merenick and Olutobi ‘Nyra’ Akinwumi. “Flashlight” boasts crackling drum samples, orchestral strings, and spacious synths. Mapp’s voice is equal parts haunting and comforting, as she reads our minds at the end of the track: “you always come back.” Whether it’s clairvoyance or coincidence, Giselle is right—this song is going to stay on repeat for the foreseeable future.

F"When I wrote this song, I was going through a lot of feelings, and emotions about who I was, where I am going," Mapp told Complex. "There were so many colours and shades of myself layering each other. So I wanted to be reminded, and when I was I felt sure again. I felt the best part of myself that kept me going, coming back, ready to help and love the rest of me. You'll find the best part of yourself flashing by you, and in an instant, it's gone again. But it will be there, and it will always come back. Like a whisper in the ear, you'll remember the it, like soft words."

Stay tuned for WILDE’s debut project, which will feature 6 originals, and 7 remixes, with contributions from Fool’s Gold impresario Nick Catchdubs, Esta (of Soulection), HMLT, Michael Imperial, and more. Listen to “Flashlight” below:
