We're not even two full weeks into 2014, but the official confirmation that OutKast will headline two major festivals might be one of the biggest news stories of the year. But when one door opens, another closes. And this week The-Dream announced his departure from Def Jam, the label that catapulted him from songwriter and producer to artist.
What will Dream do next? Perhaps he can take inspiration from a bedroom music icon Keith Sweat. This week, the R&B elder statesman announced he'd be hosting a sexy high seas jaunt (in conjunction with Grown and Sexy Cruises, natch) that includes, among many other salacious activities, a male auction.

Young Jeezy arrested
Young Jeezy turned himself into police after being issued a warrant for allegedly beating, trapping, and threatening to kill his 17-year-old son in September 2012. A matter his publicist said should "resolve itself appropriately."
Date: January 7
"Young Jeezy [was] been arrested in Atlanta for battery, false imprisonment, terrorist threats. [TMZ had] acquired the charging documents, which [said] that Jeezy and his son got into a physical altercation in September 2012.
The incident, which happened in a bathroom, involved Jeezy throwing his son into a glass shower door, after which, Jeezy 'allegedly punched [his son] in the face, dragged him into the bedroom, threw him on the bed and pummeled him. Jeezy reportedly also told his son, 'I will kill you... I will put a bullet in your head right now... If I could get away with it, I would kill you.'
A grand jury warrant was issued for each of the charges and Jeezy, subsequently, turned himself into the authorities on Friday. He posted a $45,000 quickly after the arrest."—Claire Lobenfeld
Later in the week, Jeezy "denied the details of [the] report that he assaulted his son Jadarius in September 2012. [TMZ reported] that Jeezy [claimed] to have only shoved his son to the ground in self-defense, but otherwise did not physically touch him.
Along with battery and false imprisonment, Jeezy was charged with making terrorist threats against his son, including telling his son, 'I will kill you... I will put a bullet in your head right now' according to police reports. Jeezy has told sources that he said, 'I brought you into this world and I can take you out of it.'
TMZ also [alleged] that their sources close to Jeezy believe the root of the issue stems from Jadarius' mother Tenesha Dykes. They report that she 'is brainwashing the son against his dad and trying to squeeze every penny she can get from Jeezy.'"—Dharmic X
Clipse Album 2014
Word came that Clipse is reuniting. (If not photographic evidence.)
Date: January 7
"At the end of 2013, Pusha T confirmed that he and the Neptunes would be reuniting for his second solo album King Push. But according to Karen Civil, that won't be the only reunion planned for Pusha this year.
His brother, and other half of Clipse, No Malice is rumored to be coming back into the fold, effectively ending their four year hiatus after 2009's Til The Casket Drops. According to Civil, the pictures that Pusha posted at the top of the month on Instagram are from sessions for a new Clipse project—even though No Malice is nowhere to be seen in any of them. While there is no source, anonymous or otherwise, cited on the blog, the item was posted by Pusha T's Facebook page, giving some weight to the report."—Justin Davis

Insane Clown Posse sues FBI
We learned that Insane Clown Posse filed suit against the FBI for classifying their fans, the Juggalos, as a gang. (Everyone's still scratching their heads about magnets, though.)
Date: January 8
"In 2011, the FBI classified Insane Clown Posse's fanbase, Juggalos, as a gang. The following year, the ICP filed a lawsuit against the FBI, alleging that the agency did not respond to a Freedom of Information Act request explaining the criteria that led to this designation. While that suit was eventually dismissed, ICP has filed a new lawsuit against both the FBI and the Department of Justice, this time in conjunction with four fans and the American Civil Liberties Union.
The suit alleges that the FBI is using 'unconstitutionally vague' criteria to designate the Juggalos as a gang. 'None of the information revealed showed any significant link between any significant percentage of the Juggalos and the kind of criminal behaviors that the Department of Justice is supposed to be targeting through these gang initiatives,' said Saura Sanu, a lawyer assisting the ACLU." —Dharmic X
The-Dream leaves Def Jam
The-Dream left Def Jam.
Date: January 8
"After an incredible six-year run with Def Jam Records as a songwriter, producer, artist, and A&R, The-Dream has announced today he's leaving the label. He made the announcement through Instagram, posting a picture of the Def Jam logo with the caption, 'I will miss this logo. It all started here! Love everything that I achieved there,' before giving a play-by-play of his work with the company. Some of his most notable work at Def Jam includes writing credits on Rihanna's mega-hit 'Umbrella,' as well as his own music, starting with his 2007 debut Lovehate."—Edwin Ortiz
DJ Drama A&R at Atlantic
DJ Drama turned in his grillz and put on a suit (only metaphorically), taking an A&R job at Atlantic Records.
Date: January 8
"The 35-year-old hip-hop entrepreneur has been tapped to join the A&R staff. The position will be based in Atlanta where Drama will continue to work out of his own Means Street Studios. It's worth noting that Drama and Atlantic share some history together. The Philadelphia native released two albums under their roof: Gangsta Grillz: The Album in 2007 and its follow-up in 2009. Now, instead of being the talent, Drama will be overseeing their roster of emerging rap stars.
'I'm extremely excited to embark on this new chapter in my relationship with Atlantic Records,' Drama said of his new venture. 'My first two albums as an artist were on Atlantic, and I'm now looking forward to working with Craig and Julie [Greenwald] in a new capacity, helping them break the label's next crop of amazing talent.'"—Edwin Ortiz
OutKast shows announced
Big Boi (Aquarius) and Andre 3000 (Gemini) announced that they would be getting back together and headlining summer music festivals as the mighty, mighty OutKast.
Date: January 8 & 9
"Less than a day after the announcement was made that OutKast would be reuniting in April for Coachella, the organizers of Governors Ball have confirmed with Rolling Stone that the duo will be the headlining act for this year's NYC-based festival. It will be taking place from June 6 to June 8 at Randall's Island Park. This will be Big Boi and Andre 3000's first concert together in NYC in over a decade. Initial reports indicated that Coachella and Governors Ball are going to be two dates on a festival tour that the ATLiens will go on this year."—Dharmic X
