Just yesterday we highlighted this feature on the birth of the robots, highlighting the conversations that Daft Punk had that manifested themselves into the iconic helmets. What we hadn't seen was this documentary, which dropped earlier this year, and features Alterian Inc.'s Tony Gardner, who took the sketches of Thomas and Guy-Man and turning them into fully-realized helmets. You get to learn a number of things, like the fact that early sketches showed that the helmets were supposed to have hair(!), but you ultimately get to see how much could be done 13 years ago, when resources in this field weren't as advanced.
