What they didn't know is that when you combine those vocals and ?uestlove's drums, you pretty much end up with some shit that sounds a lot like Portishead circa '95. Still, Black keeps it gully as he surveys the fucked-up conditions of the ghetto and spits a line that's destined to become an instant classic: "Right off work, off to work again/Look how they got me on the Def Jam payment plan." Ha! What up L.A. Reid?
