New York Comic Con 2013: "Sonic Lost World" Plays Just As Good As It Looks

When we initially saw Sonic Lost World a few months back, we thought it looked really cool, but we were a bit worried. Would a Super Mario Galaxy-esque game really play well with Sonic? Well, after some playtime on the Wii U and 3DS, we gotta give it to Sega.

They definitely pulled it off with this one. We sampled all four levels in the demo, which ranged from a Casino to a candy-inspired zone mostly in 2D, and we fell in love. Ever since Sonic Colors, Sonic has been on the rebound, and from early impressions, this might be his best 3D game yet. The key is in the discovery. Once you get the hang of controlling Sonic in this game (You actually hold R to run, which takes a bit getting used to) he can go at dizzying speeds in directions we never thought possible for the blue blur.

It feels like a brand new take on Sonic, and it is. And the 3DS version is actually more intuitive that Wii U one. On the small screen, and with your finger closer to that R button, it just feels more natural, and we picked it up without a problem. We were hopping and bopping across spherical sections in no time. And the best part is, both the Wii U version and the 3DS one have entirely different levels, so you might as well just get both if you have both systems. Nintendo kept trying to push this off as the year of Luigi, but with Sonic Lost World and his recently announced appearance in Smash, we’re going to have to give it to Sonic instead. This is his moment. Sonic Lost World comes out for the Wii U and 3DS October 29th.
