Internet sensations come and go so quickly, it's easy to forget about all of the hilarious memes that have gone viral in 2013. This year, we saw the rise of everybody's favorite pup, DogeGrumpy Cat got her very own book and movie, and rappers like Drake and Jay Z had a bunch of their less flattering photos immortalized in the form of hilarious memes.

2013 was a big year not only for some of our favorite rappers and furry online friends but for the rest of the world too. Pope Benedict XVI stepped down, Blizzard Nemo happened, the United States Federal Government shut down for a few days, and a whole lot more. 50. Blizzard Nemo

Month released: February

After Blizzard Nemo hit the East Coast of the United States back in February, delaying flights and trapping everyone indoors, the real storm happened on the Internet in a downpour of hilarious memes. Some people made fun of the blizzard's name, which reminded most of their favorite clownfish while others relied on classic meme characters.

49. Scarlett Johannson Falling

Month released: October

Although both Jennifer Lawrence and Scarlett Johansson were captured on film tripping and falling in 2013, Scarjo's fall was a little less graceful. For proof that even celebrities have clumsy moments, behold the Falling Scarjo images, which Redditors took upon themselves to Photoshop onto different scenes.

48. Horse Meat Scandal

Month released: January

At the beginning of this year, beef products were discovered to contain, not beef, but horse meat. Though horse meat is not actually harmful, it is considered a taboo food in many countries. These memes were created to warn viewers that they can never be too sure of what they're really eating.

Month released: May

People lost it after Daft Punk's Random Access Memories leaked in May earlier this year. Thanks to these Daft Punk memes, which were created shortly after the world finally got a listen of the much-anticipated album, we can relive the craze.

46. Wrecking Ball

Month released: September

Although Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" music video was initially met with shock and awe, the initial images of nude Miley riding a giant silver ball have faded (slightly) from memory. Nothing to see, just Miley being (new) Miley. Needless to say, the Internet also saw a bunch of hilarious Photoshopped images of Miley coming in on a wrecking ball.

45. Carter Family Portraits

Month released: September

All hail whoever decided to transform classic paintings into portraits of the Carter Family. Using a range of paintings, from Andy Warhol's Marilyn portrait to Botticelli's Birth of Venus, the creator seamlessly meshes snippets from Hov, Bey, and Blue Ivy's life with the high art of yesteryear.

44. Te'oing

Month released: January

Who could forget the story about how Manti Te'o was duped by a fake Internet girlfriend (whom he also believed died) at the beginning of this year? Though the world will never know for sure whether Te'o knew Lennay Kekua was not a real person, one thing is for sure: the Internet is the cruelest troll—just look to these Te'oing memes as proof.

43. Sleeping Tilda Swinton

Month released: March

No disrespect to Tilda Swinton. Some people just don't understand art. After Swinton opened her installation at MoMA—in which she sleeps in a glass case—many people tried to imitate the performance artist. They gave rise to a new photo trend, appropriately called "Tildaing."

42. #StarbucksDrakeHands

Month released: October

Note to men everywhere: when you manage to get a model's number, text her like a normal person. Do not make #StarbucksDrakeHands guy's mistake by sending her a selfie video of you smiling silently and creepily as "Hold On, We're Going Home" plays in the background. It won't get you on a date with her—but it will secure you Idiot of the Year and your very own meme. Behold, #StarbucksDrakeHands.

Mean Girls never gets old, especially when its quotes are paired with Mad Men screen shots. There's nothing like imagining Joan Harris tell someone she can only wear her hair in a ponytail once a week.

40. White Entrepreneurial Guy

Month released: April

White Entrepreneurial Guy, also known as White Entrepreneurial Detroit Guy, actually originated from a photograph of startup founder Jason Lorimer. The photo had been published in an op-ed piece on Detroit's potential for economic development. Days after the article was published, the "White Entrepreneurial Guy" page launched on both Quickmeme and Facebook, poking fun at the money-hungry opportunists who exploit Detroit while claiming to help improve the city.

39. Underachieving Detroit Hipster Guy

Month released: April

There are hipsters, and then there are hipsters from Detroit—you know who we're talking about. The Underachieving Detroit Hipster Guy aims to make fun of the hipsters who will accompany us on all our lavish, Sunday brunch dates but consistently bum a cigarette off us afterwards. The meme features photos of a flannel-wearing hipster, presumably from Detroit, paired with an obnoxious caption of something pretentious he would say. This meme is funny only because it speaks the truth.

38. Pottering

Month released: March

In March 2012, the world found a cool alternative to planking—Pottering, a photo trend which involves people photographing themselves jumping into the air while holding a broomstick between their legs. Although the first photo of someone "Pottering" actually hit the Internet back in 2012, it wasn't until March 2013 that the trend became popular. Three Australians decided to create a Facebook group called "Public Pottering" and encouraged others to submit pictures of themselves riding it like Harry.

37. Government Shutdown

Month released: October

Remember when the United States Federal Government shut down for over two weeks back in October? When news hit the Internet that the government had closed down for the first time in 17 years, Photoshop mavens were quick to react, poking fun at a harrowing moment in U.S. history. The sad part is, many of them were more accurate than funny—just sayin'.

36. Unflattering Beyonce

We didn't think it could ever be possible, but alas, an unflattering picture of Beyonce does exist. Photos of Beyonce performing at the 2013 Superbowl were first featured on Buzzfeed in a post entitled "The 33 Fiercest Moments From Beyonce's Halftime Show." After seeing the post, Bey's publicist emailed Buzzfeed asking them to remove the photos, calling them "unflattering"—an email which Buzzfeed subsequently published in another post. As anyone can imagine, this sent the Internet into a frenzy, bringing the photos even more attention, including the Unflattering Beyonce meme.

35. Started From The Bottom

Month released: February

"YOLO" got old pretty quickly in 2012, so naturally Drake had to come up with a newer and better motto for 2013. Not only did "Started From the Bottom" become the catchiest song by the beginning of the new year, but it also became the caption for these memes, which ironically also managed to poke fun at Drake.

34. Actresses Without Teeth

Month released: March

You won't be able to look at some of your favorite actresses again after you've seen these Actresses Without Teeth. It didn't take much, but the creator of this Tumblr decided to erase the teeth from photos of famous stars like Miley Cyrus and Emma Watson. We can't really decide if these photos are hilarious, horrifying, or both.

33. Screaming Goats

Month released: February

Back in February, the Internet exploded with a video parody of Taylor Swift's "Trouble" music video. Instead of Taylor Swift's screams, the video has been replaced with the video and audio of a goat's bleating. Days later, many variations emerged like this clip of Jay Z and Kanye's "Ni**as in Paris," featuring a billy goat. See the music clips below.

32. Surprised Patrick

Anyone who doesn't find SpongeBob SquarePants and the rest of Bikini Bottom funny surely has never seen Surprised Patrick. Arguably the dumbest funniest character on the show, Patrick Star has also become an Internet meme, popping up on random images with his jaw dropped and eyes wide. Prepare to burst into laughter whenever you see the pink dude's face.

This summer, Papoose made a surprise appearance, joining Kendrick Lamar on stage at Hot 97's Summer Jam festival. After K. Dot concluded his set, out popped Papoose, who performed a single "Get at Me" from his latest EP The Nacirema Dream. His impromptu appearance took many by surprise, which also resulted in some memorable memes.

30. Sexually Oblivious Female

Month released: February

Originally based off a Funny or Die sketch, The Sexually Oblivious Female features the skit's female character Karen Shipley, who makes a bunch of sexually-charged comments throughout her day. Internet users uploaded images of a clueless Karen alongside suggestive captions onto Imgur. Thus, Sexually Oblivious Female was born.

From Miley to amateurs, it's no secret everybody was twerking in 2013. Even cats were shaking it like they got it in a video trend that went viral, thanks to Vine.

28. Les Mean Girls

Month released: January

The magic of Mean Girls quotes is that they are applicable to and relevant in just about every situation or context, even scenes from Les Miserables. The Tumblr Les Mean Girls takes movie stills from Les Miserables and incorporates famous quotes from Mean Girls into the images, adding some humor to the solemn musical. Our favorite is "Two for you, Jean Valjean! You go, Jean Valjean!"

27. Grumpy Tommy Lee Jones

Month released: January

While everyone else at the 2013 Golden Globe awards may have found Kristin Wiig and Will Ferrell's skit amusing, actor Tommy Lee Jones was not the least bit impressed. The photo of Tommy subsequently went viral on the Internet—some even pointed out his uncanny resemblance to Grumpy Cat.

26. Kim Kardashian and Kanye West's Baby

Month released: January

After power couple Kimye announced Kim's pregnancy at the beginning of 2013, the Internet saw no shortage of satirical images speculating on what the baby of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian would look like in nine months. People went to town on Photoshop, cropping images of Kanye's face onto sonograms and school photos. Thankfully, North West looks a whole lot cuter than these memes.

25. Desmond Bryant's Mugshot

Month released: March

And the award for ugliest mugshot ever goes to Desmond Bryant of the Oakland Raiders, who was arrested back in February for allegedly being too drunk. From his mugshot, anyone can tell the Oakland player was definitely drunk off his ass. See: his glossy eyes and protruding tongue. Apparently, Jimmy Kimmel thought Bryant's mugshot was funny too and asked the Internet and guests to make their best imitation of the drunken arrest.

24. Thumbs and Ammo

Month released: March

"Real tough guys don't need guns, they just need a positive, can-do attitude," the Tumblr Thumbs and Ammo says. What better way to protest guns than to make people laugh? The creator of Thumbs and Ammo decided to replace guns with thumbs-ups onto image-stills from famous movie scenes of characters bearing firearms. The first post, for example, features Brad Pitt from the 1995 film Seven with a thumb extended upward instead of a finger behind the trigger.

23. Hitler Reacts to Google Reader Ending

Month released: March

Many people were outraged after Google announced it would be ending its content aggregator program Google Reader back in July, but no one is more furious than Adolf Hitler. YouTube user leebdough took a scene from the 2004 film "Downfall" and incorporated subtitles of how he imagines the evil Nazi leader would react to the end of Google Reader. Not only are the subtitles on point (for instance, "What are my alternatives now? I mean seriously ... NetNewsWire? Is that still up and running?"), but Hitler's facial expressions and tantrums in all the Hitler Reacts To... parodies never get old.

22. Titler

Month released: April

Titler came into being after some Redditors who had been watching The Producers decided to think up some new ways to poke fun at the Hitler. They came up with Titler. Yes, the meme portrays Hitler with tits.

21. Lil Wayne Hospitalized for Another Seizure

Month released: May

Some may chuckle now, but back in May, Lil Wayne's frequent seizures and trips to the hospital had many people worried. The rapper was in the hospital for six days in March. Then he suffered another seizure in May. Many thought Wayne's seizures were caused by his habit of sipping on sizzurp (an addictive mixture of prescription-strength cough syrup with soda). Turns out, Wayne, who is an epileptic, has suffered from seizures his whole life and says the seizures have no lasting effects on him. In any case, we're just glad he's okay.

20. 2013 Oscars

Month released: February

2013 marked the moment Jennifer Lawrence became the most meme-friendly actress in history, largely due largely to her epic photobombing skills and her ability to make even falling at the Oscars look adorable. While the 2013 Academy Awards was airing on television, the Internet was dutifully making memes in reaction to some of the night's major moments, i.e. J. Law taking a tumble right before her acceptance speech and Seth MacFarlane's controversial "We Saw Your Boobs" song.

19. Bad Luck Leonardo DiCaprio

Month released: February

It's hard to believe Leonardo DiCaprio, who has been nominated for an Academy Award on numerous occasions, has yet to take home an Oscar. Instead, the actor now has his very meme "Bad Luck Leonardo DiCaprio." Poor guy.

18. Excited Harvard Band Member

Month released: March

It's good to know there are some people in the world whose joy has not been snuffed out by the everyone else—like this kid in Harvard's band. Though the band student was actually celebrating Harvard's win against New Mexico, the Number 3 seed in the NCAA Tournament, the viral image has since been improved with funny, albeit cruel captions like "This must be what sex feels like!" Hey, it was too easy.

17. Resigning Pope

Month released: February

Pope Benedict XVI shocked the world after he announced his resignation in 2013. The former pope stepped down after eight years of papacy, making him the first pope to resign in 600 years. "Strength of mind and body are necessary, strength which in the last few months has deteriorated in me to the extent that I have had to recognize my incapacity to adequately fulfill the ministry entrusted to me," Benedict said. Naturally, this rare occasion inspired for a series of memes.

16. Dogs in Tights

Perhaps the greatest (or most evil) thing about Dogs in Tights is the fact that these images were not Photoshopped. Some dog owner from China actually managed to stuff his pup into pantyhose for a photo shoot. Though we feel a little bad for the dogs, the pictures are still pretty hysterical.

15. I Hit It First

Month released: April

In April, Ray J tried to make a comeback with the release of his song "I Hit It First." Though the singer claimed his latest song was not written about his ex-flame, the single cover also featured a not-so-subtle image of a pixelated, bikini-clad Kim. The Internet responded to Ray J's infectious song with parody artwork for fictitious albums like Harry Styles' "We All Hit It."

14. Got 2 Grams for $40

Month released: April

We have Nathan Fielder to thank for this one. On April 24, the Canadian comedian took to Twitter to propose an experiment, "Text your parents 'got 2 grams for $50' then right after 'Sorry ignore that txt. Not for you,' Then tweet pic of their response." His followers did as told, posting reactions from their parents, many of whom were outraged and demanded immediate explanations. Too good.

13. Invisible Spaghetti

Month released: April

Bravo to whoever started the Invisible Spaghetti meme. In response to all the girls who take selfies of themselves making the tired, old "duck face," the Internet decided to incorporate plates of spaghetti into the photos. Now instead of duck faces, girls are shown slurping on strings of pasta.

12. Kim Kardashian Couch Meme

Month released: May

Though it's been a while since 2013's Met Ball, who could forget Kim Kardashian's choice in attire this year? Homegirl attended event in an all floral get-up, which resembled a patterned couch more than it did a Riccardo Tisci gown. Though Tisci spoke out in defense of the socialite's gown, the Internet was ruthless, portraying her as a couch and juxtaposing her photo with Robin Williams as Mrs. Doubtfire.

11. Balls Replaced With Cats

Month released: April

We have no idea how anyone comes up with these ideas, but we're not complaining. For proof that the Internet is obsessed with cats, look no further than Sport Balls Replaced with Cats, a Tumblr spotlighting exactly that. All of the featured images depict athletes in the middle of an intense game. In place of balls, however, the athletes play with cats, which have been seamlessly Photoshopped into the picture.

10. Macklemore Selfie

Month released: April

Back in April, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis took the stage for a performance at George Washington University. During the show, an overzealous fan threw her phone onto the stage, which Ben "Macklemore" Haggerty picked up and used to take a selfie. After the original selfie circulated throughout the Internet, Redditors decided to turn the awkward selfie into a meme. The memes depict Macklemore snapping photos of himself instead of helping others.

9. Cats That Look Like Male Models

Month released: April

Cats That Look Like Male Models actually comes from the Tumblr "Des Hommes et des Chaton," which pairs photos of cats with ones of male models. The juxtaposition of the models and felines make for some hilarious memes. In some of these photos, the cats share a striking resemblance to their human counterparts, and in others, the cats simply look adorable. It's a must-browse for any cat-lover.

8. You Ain't Got The Answers, Sway

Month released: December

A few weeks ago, Kanye West sat down for an interview with Sway Calloway on Shade 45. Things got a little heated half way through the interview after Kanye started criticizing those who get in the way of his creativity. This prompted Sway to ask Yeezy why he doesn't just "empower himself" and "do it himself," to which he furiously responded, "You ain't got the answers, Sway!" Of course, this quote was the perfect opportunity for more hilarious, Kanye-inspired memes.

7. Doge

Month released: January

We may never fully understand Doge, the pup who became an Internet sensation in 2013. However, the more we looked at the Shiba Inu, adorned with random words written in colorful, Comic Sans, the funnier the little pup looks. Apparently, the words are supposed to represent the internal monologue of a dog, whose name has intentionally been misspelled "doge" to add to the cuteness.

6. B*tch I Might Be

Month released: May

On April 17, Gucci Mane attended his court hearing, during which he was charged with aggravated assault. Someone subsequently took a photo of Gucci Mane from the hearing and added the caption "Rapper Gucci Mane responds with 'Bitch I might be,' when asked if guilty," borrowing lyrics from the rapper's 2006 single "Pillz." Many people initially believed the Photoshopped image to be real. After the photo circulated, the Internet exploded with memes and even a Twitter account of the same name.

5. Jay Z Dive

When Jay Z and Beyonce were celebrating Bey's birthday on a yacht in Italy, a paparazzo snapped a photo of the couple as they jumped into the swimming pool for a dip. Though the photographer probably did not intend it, his photograph led to a series of hilarious memes, all centered on the fact that Jay Z cannot dive at all—or he simply looks hilarious while doing so.

4. Grumpy Cat

Month released: September 2012

Though Grumpy Cat a.k.a. Tardar Sauce first made her way onto the Internet in 2012 by way of Reddit, Grumpy Cat had much to celebrate in 2013. The Internet's favorite feline name and face became trademarked in January 2013. She also got her own movie and book (which prompted more memes) in 2013—not that those accomplishments managed to turn that signature scowl into a smile.

3. Drake the Type

Month released: July

Drake will forever be remembered as one of the more sensitive rappers in the game—hence the birth of these hilarious "Drake the Type" memes, which we admittedly also found amusing. Luckily, Drake is good sport about the jokes.

2. Miguel Dropkick

Month released: May

Everyone messes up, but there is no way the Internet will ever let Miguel live it down. Back in May during the Billboard Music Awards, Miguel was in the middle of performing his song "Adorn" when he attempted to leap over a crowd of people from one stage to another. Needless to say, it was a failed attempt, which resulted in what's known today as the Miguel Dropkick Meme. The singer ended up landing on a girl in the crowd, but luckily, no one was seriously injured. Somehow, Miguel was able to carry on with his performance like nothing happened.

1. Drake in Dada

Month released: May

It's a good thing Drake has a sense of humor because homeboy has become the subject of numerous parody Twitter accounts like Drake The Type Of and arguably the most meme-friendly rapper in 2013. His first meme sensation rose from the set of DJ Khaled's "No New Friends" video, where Drake was captured on photo trying to bring back Dada. Needless to say, the Internet blew up with memes reacting to the rapper's look, Photoshopping Drake into hilarious scenes from cartoons and photos with other celebs.
