Solange recently interviewed her collaborator and friend Mickalene Thomas for fashion site Opening Ceremony. Thomas created the cover art for Solange's first EP True that reflects the artist's collage technique. To create her works, she first photographs her subjects in interior spaces. Then she picks images with interesting composition and integrates other visuals into the photos, like vintage wallpaper or old drawings.
Thomas talked about the process of working with other creatives: "Collaborating acts as a catalyst for growth and it pushes me in directions I can’t anticipate. It takes a lot of effort from both parties to relinquish complete control and when that happens, the magic begins and the results are off the chain."
