Dikembe Mutombo Responds to LeBron James' 'Shut Up and Dribble' Controversy

Dikembe Mutombo believes the responsibility of weighing in on social injustices shouldn't fall on just LeBron James.

TMZ Sports recently caught up with Dikembe Mutombo to get his thoughts on the comments made by Fox News host Laura Ingraham about LeBron James and Kevin Durant. "It's always unwise to seek political advice from someone who gets paid $100 million a year to bounce a ball," Ingraham said on her show on Thursday. "Keep the political comments to yourself...Shut up and dribble."

When asked if athletes like LeBron should speak out about the social injustices impacting today's society, Mutombo believes that James isn't the only one who should feel empowered to express themselves. "I think everyone in the U.S. has rights to express themselves," he said. "When there's a problem affecting one part of the society, it becomes the responsibility of everybody."

James took a measured tone in his response to Ingraham's remarks during a media session at the NBA All-Star Weekend on Saturday. "We will definitely not shut up and dribble," he said. "I will definitely not do that. I mean too much to society. I mean too much to the youth. I mean too much to too many kids who feel like they don’t have a way out, and they need someone to help lead them out of the situation they’re in."

Mutombo also believes the responsibility of weighing in on political issues shouldn't just fall on the shoulders of one star "Everyone, not just LeBron," he admits. "Everyone."
