On Thursday, 15-year-old Fulton High School sophomore and football player Zaevion Dobson was shot to death while trying to protect three girls from what investigators believe to be a gang-related shooting. Dobson was allegedly with friends when a group of men approached them and "randomly fired multiple times" in their direction, according to Knoxville Police Chief David Rausch. Zaevion responded by using his body to shield three girls from gunfire.

Following the tragic event, one of the girls tweeted the following heartbreaking message.

One of the individuals involved in the shooting, Brandon Perry, died from gunshot wounds sustained after he was struck following a car crash into another apartment. The two other men were arrested.
