J.J. Redick on the State of the Clippers: "We're Not as Good as San Antonio or Golden State"

Redick isn't wrong, though.

On Friday, the Los Angeles Clippers put up a good fight before falling to the San Antonio Spurs on the road, 115-107. Following the game, J.J. Redick didn't want to discuss any positive takeaways. Instead, he focused on delivering the harsh but honest truth. “We know where we're at. We're not as good as San Antonio or Golden State. Obviously, Monday (against Oklahoma City) will be a test. But, we're not there,” he told Dan Woike of the Orange County Register. “We know that.”

At 16-11, the Clippers sit in fourth place in the Western Conference. However, last night's contest was a reminder that there is still a lot of room for improvement. “We’ve had trouble closing games against good teams. There’s no question,” Redick said. “We’ve closed games against bad teams. I don’t know the answer to it.”

Throughout the season, the Clippers have been a Jekyll and Hyde team. One game they look like a strong, cohesive unit. The very next contest could be a completely different story. Through it all, though, they have still managed to rack up a solid number of wins and continue to be in a strong position to lock up a solid spot in the Western Conference playoffs. Still, if the Spurs and Warriors have taught us anything, it's that there is always room for improvement.
