A few minutes after losing to Floyd Mayweather on May 2, Manny Pacquiao was interviewed by Max Kellerman in the ring and revealed that he believed he had won the Fight of the Century. At the time, we were kind of hard on both Pacquiao and, more specifically, those who agreed with him. But in hindsight, we can't blame him for getting caught up in the heat of the moment. Following the fight, he probably believed that it was closer than it was.
Pacquiao has had more than a week now to review the fight, though. So surely he's realized that he didn't win the fight, right? If nothing else, Mayweather landed more punches on Pacquiao and connected at a higher rate:
But for whatever reason, Pacquiao still thinks he won the fight. He talked to Philippine broadcaster ABS-CBN yesterday after returning to his homeland and admitted that he has sat down and watched the fight on numerous occasions since May 2. And he still believes that he was victorious.
"I reviewed it repeatedly," he said. "I scored myself. I was ahead two points."
Despite this, Pacquiao also said that he doesn't want to be a sore loser about it.
"Enjoy your victory," he told Mayweather. "You deserve it."
But he's clearly not over the loss yet. And while he wouldn't address the idea of a rematch between him and Mayweather, it's safe to say that it's on his mind right now.
After seeing the PPV numbers that were released yesterday, do you even blame him?
