In a move that should surprise only the most gullible of fans, the Chicago Cubs have decided to call-up the top prospect in baseball, Kris Bryant, for their Friday afternoon game tomorrow against the Padres. This move comes literally the day after the deadline that allows for Bryant to qualify for a seventh-year of team control. For those of you who don't follow baseball (even though it's unlikely you clicked on the article) what that means is that there are only 171 days left in the baseball season, and you need 172 to qualify for a full year. So now the Cubs can control Bryant for seven years (keeping him through 2021) instead of six years (keeping him through 2020) before he hits free agency. Since his agent is probably the biggest pain in the ass in all of sports, it was almost a certainty that he wouldn't sign an extension before hitting the open market.

Basically it's a shady ass move, but we would've done the same thing if we were the Cubs brass.

Just so you have a refresher, Bryant was the No. 2 overall pick in the 2013 Draft. In 2014, he was the Minor League Player of the Year, batting .325/.438/.661 with 43 homers and 110 RBI across both Double-A and Triple-A. Thus far this season, he was batting .321 with three bombs and 10 RBI. He is expected to rake immediately, and be the latest dude to get the call amongst the Cubs' plethora of prospects expected to (eventually) end baseball's longest and most annoying* "curse."
