During the past few years, concussions in the NFL have become a much-discussed topic, as suicides and deteriorating mental states among former players have contributed to the growing fear surrounding a career in professional football.

However, current Chicago Bears safety Chris Conte isn't afraid of the consequences that may come from his life on the gridiron. In fact, Conte says he would willingly trade multiple years of his life for the chance to play in the NFL. Conte—who has suffered injuries of varying degrees during the 2014-15 season, including two concussions—is known for his fierce dedication to the game.

"I'd rather have the experience of playing in the NFL and die 10 to 15 years earlier than not play in the NFL and have a long life," he said while speaking WBBM-AM 780 on Monday night.

"I don't really look toward my life after football," he added. "I'll figure things out when I get there. As long as I outlive my parents."
