Roger Goodell is definitely not the most popular man in America right now. People hate that he only gave Ray Rice a two-game suspension for getting into a physical altercation with his wife back in February—and they've been very, very, very vocal about their hatred for him. But has it really come to this for Goodell?
According to an NFL fan who attended the league's Hall of Fame induction ceremony over the weekend and then sent an email to Barstool Sports, the NFL is allegedly going to great lengths to get someone—anyone!—on Goodell's side. So the fan claims that the league handed out several "Thank You Roger" signs to fans who attended the ceremony on Saturday night and promised to put them on TV if they held them up.
"I was at the Hall of Fame enshrinement tonight," the fan, identified only as "Danny," wrote to Barstool Sports yesterday. "Shortly after we sat down, people from the NFL came up to the family in front of us who had 2 small children (all wearing ray guy tshirt jerseys) and gave them signs. They said, 'hold these up and you will be on prime time tv.' The dad stole the show. But nonetheless, Roger trying to gain a little good will via children?"
Obviously, you should take this claim with a grain of salt, because there's a chance that the NFL did not hand out signs that said "Thank You Roger" on them and that this fan is not telling the whole truth. But if Goodell did co-sign this idea, it wouldn't shock us. It's just about the only way you'd catch anyone holding up a sign like this in a public venue right now.
