Many people have supported college football player Michael Sam after he recently announced that he was gay to the sports world. One opinion that the public would want to hear is his parents' stance on the situation.
Sam's father Michael, Sr. took a different route when speaking to the New York Times:
"I couldn't eat no more, so I went to Applebee's to have drinks. I don't want my grandkids raised in that kind of environment. I’m old-school. I’m a man and a woman type of guy."
He did offer some positive words despite his beliefs:
Sam Sr. loves his son, and he said he hoped his son made it to the N.F.L. “As a black man, we have so many hurdles to cross,” he said. “This is just one he has to cross.”
It's a complex situation that has everyone sounding off with their opinion about Michael Sam. Hopefully, healthy conversations and dialogue come out of this situation.
