BMW Is Going to Offer a Diesel 7-Series in the USA, Because Torque

When a car weighs this much, torque is very important.

The three German luxury automakers are fans of the wagon. We're not talking about long cars with hatches either (although they are fans of those), we're talking about the bandwagon.

Now that Audi is offering a diesel version of the Audi A8, BMW is following suit with the BMW 740Ld xDrive. That's right, buyers will have the option of nabbing a long-wheelbase, AWD 7-Series with a 3.0L twin-turbo diesel I6 that pumps out an adequate 255 hp and a nice 413 lb-ft of torque. BMW estimates that the 5,000-ish lb car will return 19 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway, which we do think is rather impressive.

Only big spenders need apply though, as the 740Ld xDrive will cost $83,425.
