The Giro Empire is a bit of elegant design, an ultramodern cycling shoe in classic form. The laceup cycling shoe was initially designed for Taylor Phinney in 2012, then added to Giro's lineup. Now there's a mountain version, which will debut with this hyper-limited (400 pairs) and individually numbered camoflauge set. Like Giro's top-of-the-line Code mountain shoe, the Empire MTB will use Easton's EC90 carbon sole, which helps it come in at just 290 grams. Seeing that 100 of the 400 pairs are already set aside for team members, just 300 will be made available to the public, the first 50 through Giro's "First 50 Friday" Facebook promotion. No word yet on pricing, but the Empire road shoe retails for $275.
