It's hard to imagine a freshman scoring as much in his first game as Pete Maravich did. Pistol couldn't play in the LSU Tigers' varsity team because of NCAA rules at the time, so he settled for kicking ass at the freshman level. The crowd who saw his 50-point performance probably didn't immediately think he was going to be the greatest college scorer of all time, but they had to have known he was going to be a problem for those he faced.
While Maravich shined, the varsity team was busy going through it. LSU won just three games in the 1966-67. Never go into battle without a pistol, boys.
