Maserati's Mid-Engined Supercar is Coming in 2016

And it won't be based on the Alfa Romeo 4C.

We expect the GranSport's styling to be largely derived from the GranTurismo (shown)

We've known for a while that Maserati has been working on a mid-engined supercar, but all the previous rumors had held that it would be based on the Alfa Romeo 4C's platform. Given that Ferrari isn't known for sharing or playing well with others, and Maserati will be building the svelte new Alfa, this made sense, but now we're hearing otherwise.

While this car will be coming in 2016, we now know very little about it, except that it will be V8 powered, and should be lighter than the Ferrari 458, even if it is less powerful. A LaFerrari-based hypercar is also apparently o longer on the table.
