13. 10 of 11 National Championships
Team/Player: University of Michigan Football
No program in the history of college football can claim more victories than the University of Michigan, which currently has 903 wins to its credit. However, of their 11 national championships, only one has come since 1948. In those earlier days of college football, many teams flat out refused to carry African-American players on their squads, and those that did often limited it to one or two guys. The result was that some of the nation's best athletes were prevented from participating and showing off their talents. An African-American didn't win the Heisman Trophy until Ernie Davis in 1961 despite the many qualified candidates that preceded him.
