What do you do when people disparage your product by calling it cheap and ugly? Well, if you're Subaru, you turn those jabs into selling points. For its first round of U.S. commercials, the Japanese automaker played off the fact that its car looked much different than the competition and carried a lower price tag. To be fair, the car was cheap and pretty ugly, but if we learned anything from 8-Mile, it was to take shots at yourself so your opponents have nothing to say. Over 40 years later, Subaru is still here.
