The Complete Sneaker History Of "Entourage"

HBO's Entourage was an eight-season escape to the good life, an exercise in male wish fulfillment. As a rule, the first order of business was surrounding movie star Vincent Chase (Adrian Grenier) and his boys with the finest of, well, everything. Extravagant mansions, exotic cars, beautiful women and, equally important: fly kicks.

Over almost 100 episodes, the boys from Queens—specifically the gleefully materialistic sneaker- and pothead Turtle (Jerry Ferrara)—stepped out in some especially eye-catching sneakers. On this day, the anniversary of the show's finale—and because we're biding our time until the movie—we give you a complete account of every noteworthy sneaker seen on the series. The most-worn sneaker on the show. Throughout all eight seasons, the best Air Force 1 of all time is Turtle's constant. The white on whites are his go-to during every phase of life from being Vince's opportunistic, desperate lackey, to improbably cuffing Jamie-Lynn Sigler, then shilling tequila before finally joining the Millionaire Boys Club. The freshest member of the Queens crew frequently goes flashy, but overall, he always falls back on the classic.

For much of the series Johnny Drama favors boots, but season one's batch of episodes—also his brokest period of the show—features the D-lister rocking kicks more often than any other year. Even still, his collection is limited, to say the least: these AF-1 highs are the only sneakers he wears for the whole season.

After keeping it basic but classic with the white on whites in the pilot, we get our first real sense of Turtle's style (and his affinity for matching) when he hops out of the whip in a tan jacket with the gum AF-1's to keep his cypher complete.

The second most-worn shoe on the show, the white-reds are clearly Turtle's favorite Forces—after the classic whites of course—to wear when he doesn't feel like really showing out.

Behold, a rare early series episode where Turtle actually has something of his own going on. While Vince reluctantly agrees to do a Chinese commercial to bring some cash flow in, Turtle preps for an XBox tournamemt. Why he chose not to wear the City Wings to the actual event and just to Vince's meeting is anyone's guess.

Fittingly, Turtle brought out the "Escapes" while he and Drama were trying to do just that from Dom, their boundary-invading friend from the Queens days, fresh out of jail and back to upset the natural order of things.

Car service mogul, tequila marketer, restauranteur—Turtle's done it all during eight seasons, but his most random career odd-job may have been his brief stint in artist management, when he tried to make Saigon (playing himself) into the rap game's next big thing. (Years later, people are still trying.) You'd think Sai-diddy would've shown off more during his handful of appearances, but this is pretty much the only time his kicks are even visible.

Turtle and Vince are the only two main cast members that regularly wear sneakers, and for the most part over the series run Vince cedes the Nike domain to Turtle, opting instead for simple Chuck Taylors that complement his just-rolled-out-of-bed, laissez-fare steez.

At the time, Saigon's signing and Turtle's subsequent management cut was the most important day of the latter's life, which is why we're treated to a quick morning montage of him getting ready for the big day, ending on him choosing this smooth-yet-bumpy pair of Forces out of his seemingly endless litter of kicks.

Entourage is by defintion a show about sharing the wealth, but Vince hit his peak here (OK maybe second to that time he saved Turtle from stupidly selling his tequila stocks and made him a millionaire). Feeling guilty that his decision to wait on line with everyone else and not cash in on his celebrity status cost Turtle a pair of limited edition kicks, Vince has renowned sneaker design guru Fake Nigo Fukijama make Turtle an even rarer pair, for a grand total of $20,000. And it wasn't even his birthday. The Mark Smiths (the actual designer) are not quite as rare in real life, at one point bidding on eBay reached about half of what Vince paid in-show.

Everyone was surprised when Turtle cuffed Jamie-Lynn Sigler and later kept up the winning streak with a character played by the impossibly hot Dania Ramirez. But don't forget, he also put the moves on Lauren London in a short and often forgotten early-season arc as well. For their first date he came correct in these AF-1 "Scarfaces," a power move since they intially bonded over being sneakerheads.

Three seasons in, Turtle's day-to-day shoe game is predictable: a crisp pair of Forces in a matching colorway. The pick of the season three finale is white-green as he helps E move in with Sloan (which didn't last long) and Drama hunt for his own condo, finally.

The first season that Drama has real money to his name and more importantly, his own place. In fact, in a nifty role reversal he's putting the gang—fresh from shooting Medellin—up in his posh, Beverly Hills adjacent condo. Rule No. 1 in Drama's new place: no shoes, no matter how fresh they are.

In one of the show's funniest Drama-Turtle subplots, the latter holds Drama down on a double date with a former '90s girl he always wanted to hook up with, played by Lisa Rinna. Of course by episode's end, Drama's cougar-ish flame trades his old ass to her scary friend in favor of Turtle, because he looks like "one of her son's friends." The kicks probably didn't hurt his image either.

The gang's first night in Vince's new house is a success when Turtle successfully bags two dimes and their mouthy friend at the supermarket. Was it because they appreciated his kick game? Maybe, but we're sure the Vincent Chase name-drop didn't hurt either.

The OG Eric Roberts shepherds Ari, Vince and the gang out to Joshua Tree for a vision quest complete with the necessary supplies—read: shrooms—and a crisp pair of J's.

Dope forces are about the only thing Turtle has going for him in this episode where he spends one hellish day as Drama's personal assistant, sans preferential friend treatment.

In the latter half of the series Vince sometimes trades his trusty Chuck Taylor classics in for their leather counterparts, specifically after his style saw a slight upgrade post career revival in season six.

The Entourage version of John Stamos is just as quirky and off-beat as his former co-star Bob Saget, and to get him to agree to a sitcom Drama has to willfully lose a game of ping-pong—which Uncle Jesse takes very seriously complete with trainer and stadium, and uniform with tracksuit and Blazers.

At girlfriend Sasha Grey's behest Vince changes right before an important meeting with a producer that will decide whether he lands a new superhero film franchise or not, and goes with the high top Creative Recs to appear slightly more casual. It's too bad she also insisted that they rail a couple lines of coke just hours before: Vince's jittery, tweaky attitude makes it hard for the producer to focus on much else, including his kick game.

Adhering to Vince's new sobriety is initally hard on resident pothead Turtle, seen stealing a moment at Vince's welcome home party to sneak a few puffs away from Drama's all-seeing, all-sober-everything eye. A few minutes later, he burns down the house and most of his clothes in it, making this one of his last late series noteworthy sneaker moments.

By this point in the show Turtle, always on trend, had moved on from jerseys, but accidentally burning down the house and all his clothes in it in the previous episode sent him back to the crates. Here the die-hard New Yorker brings out the white-orange AF-1 colorway to complement his old Knicks jersey.

One would think that Turtle would bring out the white on white Air Forces for sentimentality's sake during the show's last scene, but before flying off to Vince's wedding he opted for these blue dunks instead.
