This week has been quite an adventure. We've been rocking with Big Sean as he prepares for the biggest performance of his life. Tomorrow the G.O.O.D. Music artist will step on stage in front of his hometown fans at The Palace of Auburn Hills, a show that you can win passes to. To start the week, we talked to Portland, Oregon–based adidas Originals Design Director, Brian Foresta, to find out all the details about the special edition Big Sean adidas Originals Pro Model II. Then we spoke with Big Sean himself about his favorite adidas sneakers as well as his personal style and influences from his G.O.O.D Music crew. We even caught his latest UK performance, and spotted him wearing adidas Originals in our exclusive photos. Now let's hear from Big Sean about his adidas Originals collaboration, and his overall sneaker game.
What’s it like having adidas present you with your own shoe?
Man, it’s super awesome. Adidas is just right. They’ve been like a partner I couldn’t be more thankful for. I really feel like they’ve helped increase my popularity. You know? It’s tight to be able to attach to their brand and be able to add whatever I can offer to their brand. It’s nice to know that they appreciate it. They are always showing love. It’s an honor that they were able to make the shoe, especially at this important time for me and my family and all that we got going on.
What is it about the Pro Model that makes it special to you?
I think that the Pro Model is just a classic. It’s just a classic to me. It’s just one of those things. Shoes have certain classic designs, you know? It’s just classic. The Pro Model, the shell toe. It’s always been one of my favorites, I can’t explain, it just is. It’s the same reason I like the color green and gold. I like the Pro Models. I wear them a lot and like wearing them. They’re cool and I think they’re very respected on a fashion level. There’s a lot of shoes that people consider high-end fashion, from Balenciaga to this and that or whatever, and the Pro Models are very similar to me. They’re very fashionable to me—the design and the shape of them. I just like them.
What’s your sneaker collection like now?
I’m into sneakers man. I’m not like the biggest sneakerhead, like my homie DJ Greg Street is like a super sneakerhead. Wale is a sneakerhead. I’m a sneakerhead. I probably have a couple hundred pair of shoes. I got all sorts of shoes. I’m someone who values and appreciates the culture of just being fresh as hell, having good style. That’s something I really take pride in. From having nice shoes, to nice clothes and nice things.
