'Black Panther' Responsible for Disney's More Than $1 Billion International Box Office Earnings in 2018

'Black Panther' is still out here earning that shmoney for Disney.

If a day goes by and you haven't seen a headline about Black Panthermaking a shitload of money, is it even a day worth living? The answer is no, but thankfully, the Ryan Coogler blockbuster is out here securing an insane amount of bags nearly every single day. We already knew that the Marvel movie had surpassed the $1 billion mark at the box office, but Deadline reports today that there’s a little more to the story than just that. Black Panther was responsible for tipping the Walt Disney Studio international box office earnings beyond the $1 billion dollar mark for 2018 (and it’s only March!)

Additionally, Black Panther has become only the 14th movie ever to cross $1.2 billion at the worldwide box office. That comes out to a $590.4 million international payday and a respectable $612.1 million domestic box office. The domestic box office is expected to remain in the lead, but the gap between the two should close a little bit more in the next coming weeks.

It’s notable that Marvel movies usually make more money internationally, and Black Panther is set to break that pattern with its phenomenal success. Even though some experts expect the Marvel movie to be dethroned by Pacific Rim Uprising, Chadwick Boseman, Michael B. Jordan, Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o and the rest of the movie's superb cast and crew will still have plenty to be proud about.

Black Panther is also soaring well above other Marvel movies that did well internationally. It’s doing 34% better than Doctor Strange, which made just over $445 million worldwide. The Wakanda story is also earning 25% more than Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2, which made $473.9 million and 11% better than Thor: Ragnarok, which made $538.9 million at the international box office.

To round out the statistics, Deadline also provided a breakdown of the five best markets for Black Panther, besides the U.S., of course. China tops the list raking in $99.2 million, followed by the UK with a $60.6 million payday, and Korea, which made $42.7 million. Next is Brazil, which contributed $33.2 million and, finally, France, with $29 million.
