Unless you’ve been living under a rock for the past couple of days, you’ve probably seen the video of an Irish family trying their hardest to get a bat out of their kitchen. They eventually succeed, but the video is a better example of pure accidental everyday comedy than a how-to video on how to get rid of a bat.

Following the video going viral, Jimmy Kimmel got a hold of the Fleming family in Kerry, Ireland and interviewed them on his late-night talk show. Tadhg, the young son who was filming and whose voice can be heard on the video, Maureen, the mom who is hiding behind a door in the original video, and Derry, the heroic father who managed to catch and release the bat all connected with Kimmel at the scene of the crime: their kitchen. Even Basil the dog makes an appearance for Jimmy Kimmel Live! following his brief stint of celebrity status when he peed on the kitchen floor during the original viral video.

During the interview, we learn that this is not the first time the Fleming’s have had to deal with a furry house intruder. This was the “first time we had a bat,” Tadgh says, “but last year we had a robin in the sitting room, so it was only natural. Batman and Robin.”

Tadgh, ever the jokester, also said he felt sorry for the bat being trapped in their kitchen with his family. “The bat got frightened at my father’s legs, I’d say. It wasn’t the bat’s fault at all, it was my dad standing there in my own soccer shorts” that was the real problem, he explains.

“Is it comforting to know that in a time of emergency your son will be there to not help at all but to just film the whole thing?” Kimmel asks Derry.

“He was petrified of the bat,” Derry answered while laughing, totally ratting out his own son.

We also learn that Maureen was the one who let the bat in, even though she was hiding behind a door the entire time Derry and Tadgh were attempting to let the bat outside again.

“At any point did you consider turning the house over to the bat and moving?” Kimmel asked towards the end of the interview.

“I was gonna leave ‘em, but… in the end it was a good laugh,” Tadgh admits.

They even had a special gift for Kimmel and the viewers: at the end of the interview, Derry got up and started doing an Irish jig. Gotta love the Fleming family.
